Tūī
Tūī can be very territorial, sometimes even aggressive.
This tūī was defending his favourite flowering tree, calling loudly and chasing other birds away.
On 21 March 2022, a severe storm struck the Auckland region.
The tūī was thrown against our first‑floor window and died.
He was buried with respect beside his favourite tree, a red bottlebrush (Callistemon citrinus).
